Numbers 1

Studie

And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the Tabernacle of the congregation, on the first of the second month, in the second year after they were come··out of the land of Egypt, saying,

Take· ye ·up the sum of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, as··to their families, as··to the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls*;

from a son of twenty years and upward, all that go··out with the army in Israel; thou and Aaron shall number them as··to their armies.

And with you there shall be a man, a man for a tribe; each··man, a head of the house of his fathers is he.

And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you; for Reuben; Elizur the son of Shedeur.

And Moses and Aaron took these men who are designated by their names;

and they assembled all the congregation on the first of the second month, and they declared··their··births* by their families, according··to the house of their fathers, by the number of the names, from a son of twenty years and upward, according··to their polls*.

But the Levites as··to the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

And Jehovah had spoken to Moses, saying,

Surely thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take··up the sum of them among the sons of Israel;

but thou shalt appoint the Levites over the Habitation of the testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all that belongs to it; they shall bear the Habitation, and all its vessels; and they shall minister to it, and shall encamp all around the Habitation.

And when the Habitation journeys, the Levites shall take· it ·down; and when the Habitation is to be encamped, the Levites shall raise· it ·up; and the stranger that draws··near shall··be··put··to··death.

And the sons of Israel shall encamp, each··man by his own camp, and each··man by his own banner, as··to their armies.

But the Levites shall encamp all around the Habitation of testimony, that there be no rage upon the congregation of the sons of Israel; and the Levites shall keep the charge of the Habitation of the testimony.

And the sons of Israel did according··to all that Jehovah commanded Moses; so they did.
