Jonah 2

Studie

1 2 And Jonah prayed to Jehovah his God from the bowels of the fish,

2 3 and said, I called from my adversity to Jehovah, and He answered me; from the belly of hell I cried··out, and Thou didst hear my voice.

3 4 And Thou didst cast me into the depth, in the heart of the seas, and the river surrounded me; all Thy breakers and Thy waves passed over me.

4 5 And I said, I am driven··out from in··front··of Thine eyes; nevertheless I will look again toward the temple of Thy holiness.

5 6 The waters enclosed me, even··to the soul; the abyss surrounded me; the seaweed bound··up my head.

6 7 I went··down to the bottoms* of the mountains; the earth with her bars was over me for eternity; but Thou hast brought··up my life from the ditch, O Jehovah my God.

7 8 When my soul was··overwhelmed within me I remembered Jehovah; and my prayer came··in unto Thee, into the temple of Thy holiness.

8 9 They who keep fleeting vanities forsake their own mercy.

9 10 But I will sacrifice to Thee with the voice of confession; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of Jehovah.

10 11 And Jehovah spoke to the fish, and it vomited··out Jonah to the dry land.

Answering" in the Bible is often paired with "saying." In these cases generally it indicates a level of perception coupled with the receptivity. This means you not only accept what's coming to you from the Lord, but also see it and recognize the truth in it, and the fact that it will lead you to a better life.To "answer" generally indicates a state of spiritual receptivity. Ultimately this means being receptive to the Lord, who is constantly trying to pour true ideas and desires for good into our hearts and minds. It can also being receptive in the external parts of ourselves to the leading of the internal parts of ourselves – committing to making our actions follow our deeper beliefs.
