Jeremiah 52

Studie

Zedekiah was a son of twenty and one years when he became··king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And the name of his mother was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

And he did evil in the eyes of Jehovah, according··to all that Jehoiakim had done.

For on··account··of the anger of Jehovah it came··to··pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until He had cast them out from before His face, that Zedekiah revolted against the king of Babylon.

And it was, in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his host, against Jerusalem, and encamped against it, and built ramps against it all around.

And the city came under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

And in the fourth month, in the ninth of the month, the famine held· the city ·firmly, and there was not bread for the people of the land.

And the city was split, and all the men of war ran··away, and went··out from the city by night by the way of the gate between the two··walls, which was by the garden of the king, and the Chaldeans were by the city all around, and they went by the way of the plain.

But the host of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his host was scattered from him.

Then they took the king, and brought him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Chamath; where he spoke judgment upon him.

And the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes; and he also slaughtered all the princes of Judah in Riblah.

And he blinded the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in two··bronze fetters, and brought him to Babylon, and put him in the house of the overseer until the day of his death.

And in the fifth month, on the tenth of the month, it was the nineteenth year, the year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzaradan, a major of the guards, who stood before the king of Babylon, into Jerusalem,

and burned the house of Jehovah, and the house of the king; and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the houses of the great men, burned he with fire:

and all the host of the Chaldeans, who were with the major of the guards, tore··down all the walls all around Jerusalem.

And from the poor of the people, and the remnant of the people that were left in the city, and those that fell, that fell to the king of Babylon, and the remainder of the crowd, Nebuzaradan, the major of the guards exiled.

But Nebuzaradan the major of the guards left certain of the poor of the land for vinedressers and for farm··workers.

And the pillars of bronze that were for the house of Jehovah, and the bases, and the sea of bronze that was in the house of Jehovah, the Chaldeans broke up, and they carried all the bronze of them to Babylon.

And the pots, and the shovels, and the snippers, and the basins, and the spoons, and all the vessels of bronze with which they ministered, they took.

And the bowls, and the censers, and the basins, and the pots, and the lampstands, and the spoons, and the little··brooms which were of gold in gold, and which were of silver in silver, the major of the guards took.

The two pillars, the one sea, and the twelve cattle of bronze that were under the bases, which king Solomon had made for the house of Jehovah, there was no weight for the bronze of all these vessels.

And concerning the pillars, the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits; and a thread of twelve cubits did surround it; and its thickness was four fingers; it was hollow.

And a capital of bronze was upon it; and the height of one capital was five cubits, with netting and pomegranates on the capitals all around, all of bronze. The second pillar also and the pomegranates were as these.

And there were ninety and six pomegranates toward the wind; and all the pomegranates upon the netting were a hundred all around.

And the major of the guards took Seraiah the head priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the doorway;

and he took from the city one eunuch, who was appointed over the men of war; and seven men of them that saw the face of the king, which were found in the city; and the scribe of the commander of the army, who made· the people of the land ·an··army; and sixty men of the people of the land, that were found in the midst of the city.

So Nebuzaradan the major of the guards took them, and made them go to the king of Babylon to Riblah.

And the king of Babylon smote them, and put· them ·to··death in Riblah on the ground of Chamath. Thus Judah was exiled out of his own land.

This is the people whom Nebuchadrezzar exiled in the seventh year, three thousand Jews and twenty and three Jews:

in the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar he exiled from Jerusalem eight hundred thirty and two souls;

in the three and twentieth year of Nebuchadrezzar, Nebuzaradan the major of the guards exiled of the Jews seven hundred forty and five souls; all the souls were four thousand and six hundred.

And it was, in the thirty and seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the twenty and fifth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the first year of his kingdom lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought· him ·out from the prison house,

and spoke kindly unto him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon,

and changed his prison garments; and he did continually eat bread before him all the days of his life.

And his diet was a continual diet given him from the king of Babylon, the word of the day in the day thereof, until the day of his death, all the days of his life.
