Jeremiah 33

Studie

1 And the word of Jehovah was unto Jeremiah a second time (and he was still restrained in the court of the prison), saying,

2 Thus says Jehovah her maker, Jehovah who formed her, to establish her, Jehovah is His name:

3 Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and tell thee of great and fortified things; thou knowest them not.

4 For thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are torn··down by the embankments, and by the sword:

5 they are coming to fight the Chaldeans, but it is to fill them* with human corpses, whom I have smitten in My anger and in My fury, and I have hidden My face from this city on··account··of all their evil.

6 Behold, I will cause health and healing to come··up to her, and I will heal them, and will reveal to them the crown of peace and truth.

7 And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.

8 And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against Me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against Me.

9 And it shall be for Me for a name of joy, for praise and for adornment to all the nations of the earth, who shall hear all the goodness that I do for them; and they shall dread and tremble over all the goodness and over all the peace, which I will do for her.

10 Thus says Jehovah: Yet··again there shall be heard in this place, which you say is a waste without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolated, without man, and without those who dwell in her, and without beast,

11 the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who shall say, Confess Jehovah of Armies; for Jehovah is good, for His mercy is for eternity; and of those who shall bring· the offering of thanksgiving ·into the house of Jehovah. For I will cause the captivity of the land to return, as at the first, says Jehovah.

12 Thus says Jehovah of Armies: Still in this place, which is a waste without man and without beast, and in all its cities, shall be a home of shepherds causing their flocks to lie··down.

13 In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the south, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, shall the flocks pass yet··again under the hands of him who counts them, says Jehovah.

14 Behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will raise··up that good thing which I have spoken to the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah.

15 In those days, and at that time, I will cause the growing··Branch of justice to grow to David; and He shall do judgment and justice in the land.

16 In those days Judah shall be saved, and Jerusalem shall reside securely; and this is the name* with which He shall be called: Jehovah-our-justice.

17 For thus says Jehovah: unto David there shall not be cut··off a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel;

18 and to the priests, the Levites, there shall not be cut··off a man from before Me offering··up a burnt··offering, and burning· a gift··offering ·for··incense, and making a sacrifice all the days.

19 And the word of Jehovah was unto Jeremiah, saying,

20 Thus says Jehovah: If you can make··of··none··effect My covenant of the day, and My covenant of the night, that there should not be day and night in their times;

21 then even My covenant will be made··of··none··effect: with David My servant, from his having a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levites the priests, from being My ministers.

22 As the army of the heavens cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the seed of David My servant, and the Levites who minister to Me.

23 And the word of Jehovah was to Jeremiah, saying,

24 Seest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which Jehovah has chosen among them, He has even rejected them? And they have disdained My people, from being any··more a nation before them.

25 Thus says Jehovah, If My covenant be not by··day and night, then I have not set the stated times of the heavens and the earth.

26 even the seed of Jacob and David My servant I will reject, so that I will not* take from his seed rulers for the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; for I will cause their captivity to return, and have··compassion on them.

Apocalypse Revealed # 664

664. "For just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!" This symbolically means that everything that emanates from the Lord is just and true, because He is Divine goodness itself and Divine truth itself in heaven and in the church.

Ways symbolize truths that lead to good (no. 176). The title "king" in reference to the Lord symbolizes Divine truth, and "O King of saints" the Divine truth derived from Him in heaven and the church; for saints symbolize people who are governed by Divine truths from the Lord (nos. 173, 586). Consequently "just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!" means symbolically that everything emanating from the Lord is just and true, because He is Divine truth itself in heaven and in the church.

The Lord is called a king in reference to His Divine humanity, because this is the Messiah, the Anointed, the Christ, the Son of God. Messiah in Hebrew is Christ in Greek, and Messiah or Christ is the Son of God, as may be seen in no. 520 above. It is well known that Messiah in Hebrew means both king and anointed.

The Lord as king is the embodiment of Divine truth because that is the symbolic meaning of the title "king" (nos. 20, 483). Kings accordingly symbolize people who possess Divine truths from the Lord (Revelation 1:6; 5:10).

It is because of this that heaven and the church are called the Lord's kingdom, and that His advent into the world is called the gospel of the kingdom.

Heaven and the church are called the Lord's kingdom in Daniel 2:44; 7:13-14, 27; Luke 1:33; 4:43; 8:1, 10; 9:2, 11, 27; 10:11; 16:16; 19:11; 21:31; 22:18; 23:51. And His advent is called the gospel of the kingdom in Matthew 4:23; 9:35; 24:14. 1

But more on this subject may be seen in The Doctrine of the New Jerusalem Regarding the Lord.

[2] That the Lord is called a king is apparent from the following passages:

These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings. (Revelation 17:14)

(He who sat on the white horse) is called the Word... And... His... name (is) Lord of lords and King of kings. (Revelation 19:13, 16, cf. Daniel 2:47)

Nathanael... said..., ."..You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" (John 1:49)

When the Son of Man comes in His glory..., ...He will sit on the throne of His glory... And the King will say to those on His right hand... (and) to those on the left hand... (Matthew 25:31, 34, 41)

...they cried out: "Hosanna! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!' The King of Israel! " (John 12:13)

Pilate (asked the Lord:) "Are You a king...?" Jesus answered, ."..I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world...." (John 18:37)

Your eyes will see the King in His beauty... ...Jehovah our King, He will save us. (Isaiah 33:17 , 22)

I am Jehovah, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King. (Isaiah 43:15)

Thus said Jehovah, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts: "I am the First and I am the Last, and beside Me there is no God." (Isaiah 44:6)

Jehovah shall become King over all the earth. (Zechariah 14:9, cf. Psalms 47:2, 6-8)

Lift up your heads, O you gates..., that the King of glory may come in... Jehovah of hosts, He is the King of glory. (Psalms 24:7-10)

I will raise to David a righteous Branch, (who as) a king shall reign... and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. (Jeremiah 23:5, cf. 33:15)

And so on elsewhere, as in Isaiah 6:5; 52:7; Jeremiah 10:7, 10; 46:18; Ezekiel 37:22, 24; Zephaniah 3:15; Psalms 20:9; 45:11, 13-14; 68:24; 74:12.
