Exodus 37

Studie

And Bezaleel made the ark of shittim* wood; two··cubits and a half its length, and a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height.

And he overlaid it with pure gold, from inside and from outside, and made for it a rim of gold round··about.

And he cast for it four rings of gold on its four corners; and two rings on the one rib of it, and two rings on the second rib of it.

And he made poles of shittim wood, and overlaid them with gold.

And he brought the poles into the rings upon the ribs of the ark, to carry the ark.

And he made a place of atonement of pure gold; two··cubits and a half its length, and a cubit and a half its breadth.

And he made two cherubim of gold, solid he made them, at the two ends of the place of atonement.

One cherub at this end, and One cherub at that end; out··of the place of atonement he made its cherubim at its two ends.

And the cherubim were spreading their wings upward, sheltering with their wings over the place of atonement, and their faces were a man toward his brother; toward the place of atonement were the faces of the cherubim.

And he made the table of shittim wood; two cubits its length, and a cubit its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height.

And he overlaid it with pure gold, and he made for it a rim of gold round··about.

And he made for it an enclosure of a hand··breadth all around it; and made a rim of gold for its enclosure all around it.

And he cast for it four rings of gold, and put the rings upon the four quarters which were at its four feet.

Alongside the enclosure were the rings, the housings for the poles to carry the table.

And he made the poles of shittim wood, and overlaid them with gold, to carry the table.

And he made the vessels that were upon the table; its platters, and its dishes*, and its little··brooms, and its saucers, with which it should be covered, of pure gold.

And he made the lampstand of pure gold; solid made he the lampstand; its shaft*, and its reed, its cups, its knobs*, and its blossoms, were coming from it.

And six reeds going out of its sides; three reeds of the lampstand out of its one side, and three reeds of the lampstand out of its other side.

Three almond-shaped cups in one reed, a knob and a blossom; and Three almond-shaped cups in one reed, a knob and a blossom; so it was for the six reeds going··out of the lampstand.

And in the lampstand four almond-shaped cups; her knobs and her blossoms.

And a knob under two reeds out of it, and a knob under two reeds out of it, and a knob under two reeds out of it, for the six reeds going out of it.

Their knobs and their reeds were from it; all of it one solid thing of pure gold.

And he made the lamps thereof, seven; and its tongs, and its trowels, of pure gold.

Of a talent of pure gold made he it, and all its vessels.

And he made the altar of incense of shittim wood; a cubit its length, and a cubit its breadth, foursquare; and two cubits its height; out of it were its horns.

And he overlaid it with pure gold, its roof, and its walls all around, and its horns; and he made for it a rim of gold all around.

And two rings of gold he made for it beneath its rim, on its two ribs, upon its two sides, for housings for the poles, to carry it in them.

And he made the poles of shittim wood, and overlaid them with gold.

And he made the holy oil of anointing, and the fragrant incense, pure, made··by the ointment··maker.

Rings of gold

In Exodus 26:6, rings, taches, or clasps of gold signify the ability to use good loves to join things together. The gold stands for inner, pure loves for good. (Arcana Coelestia 9624)

Some English translations of the Word use the terms clasps, or taches of gold, and indeed Swedenborg's description of the inner meaning seems to include the idea of clasping, attaching, or joining.

Later in the story, when bronze clasps are mentioned, they mean more external -- though still good -- loves.
