Deuteronomy 3

Studie

And we turned, and went··up the way to Bashan; and Og the king of Bashan went··out to meet us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

And Jehovah said to me, Fear him not; for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst to Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.

And Jehovah our God gave into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people; and we smote him until there was not left to him any surviving.

And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

All these cities were fortified with tall walls, doors and bars; apart from very many cities of the countryside.

And we doomed them, as we did to Sihon king of Heshbon, dooming every city of the mortals, the women, and the infant*.

But all the beasts, and the spoil of the cities, we plundered for ourselves.

And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was across Jordan, from the brook of Arnon to Mount Hermon

(which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion and the Amorites call it Shenir),

all the cities of the plateau, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, even··to Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

For only Og king of Bashan was··left of the remnant of the Rephaim; behold, his couch was a couch of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the sons of Ammon? nine cubits was its length, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.

And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is on the brook Arnon, and half Mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I to the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

And the remaining part of Gilead, and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all of Bashan, that was called the land of the Rephaim.

Jair the son of Manasseh took all the region of Argob to the borders of the Geshurite and the Maachathite; and called them according··to his name, Bashan of Havoth-jair, even··to this day.

And I gave Gilead to Machir.

And to the Reubenite and to the Gadite I gave from Gilead even to the brook Arnon, to the midst of the brook, and the border is even to the brook Jabbok, which is the border of the sons of Ammon;

and the desert, and the Jordan, and the border from Chinnereth, and even··to the sea of the desert, the salt sea, under the watercourses of Pisgah towards the sunrise.

And I commanded you at that time, saying, Jehovah your God has given to you this land to possess it; you shall cross··over armed before your brothers the sons of Israel, all that are sons of valor.

Only your women, and your infants, and your livestock (for I know that you have much livestock), they shall dwell in your cities which I have given to you;

until Jehovah has given rest to your brothers, as He gave to you, and until they also possess the land which Jehovah your God has given them across Jordan; and then you shall return each··man to his possession, which I have given you.

And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that Jehovah your God has done to these two kings; so shall Jehovah do to all the kingdoms whither thou passest.

You shall not fear them; for Jehovah your God He shall fight for you.

And I asked· Jehovah ·for··grace at that time, saying,

O Lord Jehovih*, Thou hast begun to show Thy servant Thy greatness, and Thy firm hand; for what God is there in the heavens and in the earth, who does according··to Thy deeds, and according··to Thy might?

I pray thee, let me cross··over, and see the good land that is across Jordan, that good mountain, and Lebanon.

But Jehovah was··wroth against me for the sake of you, and would not hearken to me; and Jehovah said to me, It is much for thee; speak not any··more again to Me of this matter.

Go··up to the head of Pisgah, and lift thine eyes toward the sea, and toward the north, and toward the south, and toward the sunrise, and see with thine eyes; for thou shalt not cross··over this Jordan.

But command Joshua, and confirm him, and encourage him; for he shall cross··over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

And we dwelt in the ravine next··to Beth-peor.
