Amos 7

Studie

Thus has the Lord Jehovih* showed me; and behold, He formed locusts at the start of the going··up of the later··growth; and, behold, it was the later··growth after the mowings of the king.

And it was, when they completed eating the herb of the land, that I said, O Lord Jehovih, pardon, I pray Thee; by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

Jehovah repented for this; It shall not be, says Jehovah.

Thus has the Lord Jehovih shown me; and, behold, the Lord Jehovih called to strive by fire, and it devoured the great abyss, and did eat··up a part.

And I said, O Lord Jehovih, stop, I pray Thee; by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

Jehovah repented for this; It also shall not be, says the Lord Jehovih.

Thus He showed me; and, behold, the Lord stood··up on a wall made by a plumbline, and a plumbline was in His hand.

And Jehovah said to me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. And the Lord said, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst··of My people Israel; I will not again pass··by them any··more;

and the high··places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be made··a··waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

And Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam the king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against thee in the midst··of the house of Israel; the land is· not ·able to sustain all his words.

For thus says Amos: Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel being exiled shall be exiled from on their own ground.

And Amaziah said to Amos, O thou visionary, go, run··away to the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and there prophesy:

but prophesy not again any··more at Bethel; for it is the sanctuary of the king, and it is the house of the kingdom.

And Amos answered, and said to Amaziah, I was not a prophet, neither was I the son of a prophet; but I was a herdsman, and a gatherer of the fruit of mulberry··fig··trees;

and Jehovah took me from behind the flock, and Jehovah said to me, Go, prophesy to My people Israel.

And now hear the word of Jehovah: Thou* sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, nor drop··down thy word against the house of Isaac.

Therefore thus says Jehovah: Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy ground shall be parted by a cord; and thou shalt··die on unclean ground; and Israel being exiled shall be exiled from upon his ground.
