2 Samuel 6

Studie

1 And David again gathered together all the chosen ones of Israel, thirty thousand.

2 And David arose and went, and all the people that were with him, from Baale-judah, to bring··up from thence the ark of God upon which is called the name, the name of Jehovah of Armies, the cherubim sitting upon it.

3 And they made the ark of God to ride upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was in Gibeah; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.

4 And they brought it from the house of Abinadab which was in Gibeah with the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark.

5 And David and all the house of Israel played before Jehovah on every instrument of fir wood, and on harps and on psalteries, and on timbrels and on dulcimers and on cymbals.

6 And they came to the threshing··floor of Nachon, and Uzzah put··forth* to the ark of God and seized it; for the cattle stumbled.

7 And the anger of Jehovah was··fierce against Uzzah, and God smote him there for his fault; and he died there by the ark of God.

8 And David was··incensed, because Jehovah had breached a breach upon Uzzah; and he called that place Perez-Uzzah* even··to this day.

9 And David feared Jehovah that day, and said, How shall the ark of Jehovah come to me?

10 And David was· not ·willing to remove the ark of Jehovah unto him unto the city of David; and David turned· it ·aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

11 And the ark of Jehovah dwelt in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months; and Jehovah blessed Obed-edom and all his house.

12 And it was··told king David saying, Jehovah has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that he has, on account··of the ark of God; and David went and brought··up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the city of David with gladness.

13 And it was, when they who bore the ark of Jehovah had strode six strides, that he sacrificed an ox and a fatling.

14 And David danced with all his strength before Jehovah; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

15 And David and all the house of Israel brought··up the ark of Jehovah with shouting and with the voice of the shophar*.

16 And it was, as the ark of Jehovah came into the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul gazed from a window and saw king David leaping and dancing before Jehovah; and she despised him in her heart.

17 And they brought··in the ark of Jehovah, and placed it in its place, in the midst of the tent which David had stretched for it, and David offered··up burnt··offerings before Jehovah, and peace··offerings.

18 And David completed offering··up the burnt··offerings and the peace··offerings, and he blessed the people in the name of Jehovah of Armies.

19 And he imparted to all the people, to all the crowd of Israel, from a man and to a woman, to each, one cake of bread, and one portion of meat, and one flagon of wine. And all the people went, each to his house.

20 And David returned to bless his house. And Michal the daughter of Saul went··out to meet David, and said, How glorious··was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself today to the eyes of the maidservants of his servants, as one of the empty uncovering uncovers himself.

21 And David said unto Michal, It was before Jehovah, who chose me rather than thy father, and rather than all his house, to command me to be monarch over the people of Jehovah, over Israel; and I will play before Jehovah.

22 And I will be· still more ·vile than this, and I will be low in my eyes, and with the maidservants with whom thou hast talked, with them shall I be glorified.

23 But for Michal the daughter of Saul there was not a child to the day of her death.
