Samuel 16

Studie

And Jehovah said to Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul? For I have rejected him from reigning over Israel. Fill thy horn with oil and go; I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have seen among his sons a king for Myself.

And Samuel said, How shall I go? And Saul shall hear it and kill me. And Jehovah said, Take a heifer of the herd in thy hand, and say, To sacrifice to Jehovah I am come.

And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will make· thee ·to··know what thou shalt do; and thou shalt anoint unto Me whom I shall say unto thee.

And Samuel did that which Jehovah spoke, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the city were··frightened to meet him; and said, Is thy coming peace?

And he said, It is peace; I am come to sacrifice to Jehovah; sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons and called them to the sacrifice.

And it was, when they had come, that he saw Eliab, and he said, Surely in··the··presence··of Jehovah is His anointed.

And Jehovah said to Samuel, Look not on his appearance or on the tallness of his stature, because I have rejected him; for Jehovah does not Look at what man sees; for man sees what is before the eyes, but Jehovah sees the heart.

And Jesse called Abinadab, and made him to pass before Samuel. And he said, Also this one Jehovah has not chosen.

And Jesse made Shammah to pass··by. And he said, Also this has Jehovah not chosen.

And Jesse made his seven sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Jehovah has not chosen these.

And Samuel said to Jesse, Have the lads finished coming? And he said, There is yet left the youngest, and behold, he pastures the flock. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and fetch him; for we will not turn··around until he come here.

And he sent and brought· him ·in, and he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and good to··see. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he.

And Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in among his brothers; and the spirit of Jehovah came··mightily to David from that day and onward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

And the spirit of Jehovah was removed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Jehovah alarmed him.

And the servants of Saul said to him, Behold, now, an evil spirit of God alarms thee.

Let our lord now say to thy servants before thee, Seek a man who knows how to strum on the harp; and it shall be, when the spirit of God is evil upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and it shall be··good for thee.

And Saul said unto his servants, Provide* now for me a man who can strum well, and bring· him ·in to me.

And one of the lads answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse, the Bethlehemite; he knows how to strum and is mighty in valor, a man of war, and understanding of words, and a man of form, and Jehovah is with him.

And Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, who is with the flock.

And Jesse took a donkey, with bread, and a bottle* of wine, and one kid of the goats, and sent them by the hand of David his son to Saul.

And David came to Saul, and stood before him; and he loved him exceedingly; and he was his armor bearer.

And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he has found grace in my eyes.

And it was, when the spirit of God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and strummed with his hand; and Saul had··a··respite, and it was··good for him, and the evil spirit was removed from him.

Come

Adam comes to Eden - mosaic in Monreale Cathedral

As with common verbs in general, the meaning of “come” in the Bible is highly dependent on context – its meaning is determined largely by who is coming to whom and the circumstances of the action. In general, though, to come to someone - or to come to a place - represents the presence of one spiritual state with another, communication from one to the other and ultimately conjunction between them.
