1 ויאמר יהוה אל אברם לך לך מארצך וממולדתך ומבית אביך אל הארץ אשר אראך׃

2 ואעשך לגוי גדול ואברכך ואגדלה שמך והיה ברכה׃

3 ואברכה מברכיך ומקללך אאר ונברכו בך כל משפחת האדמה׃

4 וילך אברם כאשר דבר אליו יהוה וילך אתו לוט ואברם בן חמש שנים ושבעים שנה בצאתו מחרן׃

5 ויקח אברם את שרי אשתו ואת לוט בן אחיו ואת כל רכושם אשר רכשו ואת הנפש אשר עשו בחרן ויצאו ללכת ארצה כנען ויבאו ארצה כנען׃

6 ויעבר אברם בארץ עד מקום שכם עד אלון מורה והכנעני אז בארץ׃

7 וירא יהוה אל אברם ויאמר לזרעך אתן את הארץ הזאת ויבן שם מזבח ליהוה הנראה אליו׃

8 ויעתק משם ההרה מקדם לבית אל ויט אהלה בית אל מים והעי מקדם ויבן שם מזבח ליהוה ויקרא בשם יהוה׃

9 ויסע אברם הלוך ונסוע הנגבה׃

10 ויהי רעב בארץ וירד אברם מצרימה לגור שם כי כבד הרעב בארץ׃

11 ויהי כאשר הקריב לבוא מצרימה ויאמר אל שרי אשתו הנה נא ידעתי כי אשה יפת מראה את׃

12 והיה כי יראו אתך המצרים ואמרו אשתו זאת והרגו אתי ואתך יחיו׃

13 אמרי נא אחתי את למען ייטב לי בעבורך וחיתה נפשי בגללך׃

14 ויהי כבוא אברם מצרימה ויראו המצרים את האשה כי יפה הוא מאד׃

15 ויראו אתה שרי פרעה ויהללו אתה אל פרעה ותקח האשה בית פרעה׃

16 ולאברם היטיב בעבורה ויהי לו צאן ובקר וחמרים ועבדים ושפחת ואתנת וגמלים׃

17 וינגע יהוה את פרעה נגעים גדלים ואת ביתו על דבר שרי אשת אברם׃

18 ויקרא פרעה לאברם ויאמר מה זאת עשית לי למה לא הגדת לי כי אשתך הוא׃

19 למה אמרת אחתי הוא ואקח אתה לי לאשה ועתה הנה אשתך קח ולך׃

20 ויצו עליו פרעה אנשים וישלחו אתו ואת אשתו ואת כל אשר לו׃

1410. The implications of 'Jehovah said to Abram' meaning a first awareness of all things are as follows: The historical incident is representative, but the actual words describing it carry a spiritual meaning. Such was the style in the Ancient Church that if something was true people would say 'Jehovah said' or 'Jehovah spoke', which, as shown already, meant that it was so. Subsequently however when things carrying a spiritual meaning were converted into representatives, Jehovah - that is, the Lord - at that point spoke to them directly. And when it is then said that 'Jehovah said' or 'Jehovah spoke' to somebody, it has the same meaning as previously, for the Lord's words in the true historical narratives embody within them the same as the Lord's words in the made-up ones. The only difference is that the latter contain that which has been made up to be like true narrative whereas the former have not been made up. 'Jehovah said to Abram' therefore means nothing other than a first awareness, as when in the Ancient Church someone through conscience, or through some other dictate, or through their Word, was made aware that something was so, the expression 'Jehovah said' would be used.
