3 Waliva uYehova ilizwi lamaSirayeli, wamnikela umKanan lowo kuwo, wasingelwa phantsi nemizi yakhe. Kwathiwa igama laloo ndawo yiHorma.

4 Banduluka entabeni yeHore ngendlela yoLwandle oluBomvu, ukuba bajikele ilizwe lakwaEdom; bakhathazeka abantu endleleni.

5 Bathetha abantu ngoThixo nangoMoses, bathi, Yini na ukuba nisinyuse eYiputa, size kufela entlango? Ngokuba tu isonka, tu namanzi; umphefumlo wethu ukruqukile sesi sonka sinkatshunkatshu.

6 UYehova wathuma iinyoka ezinobuhlungu ebantwini, zabaluma abantu; kwafa abantu abaninzi bakwaSirayeli.

7 Beza abantu kuMoses, bathi, Sonile, ngokuba sithethe ngoYehova nangawe; thandaza kuYehova, azisuse kuthi iinyoka ezo. Wabathandazela ke uMoses abantu.

8 Wathi uYehova kuMoses, Zenzele inyoka enobuhlungu, uyixhome esibondeni eside; kothi, bonke abobalunyiweyo, bakukhangela kuyo, baphile.

9 Wenza ke uMoses inyoka yobhedu, wayixhoma esibondeni eside; kwathi, yakuba ithe inyoka yamluma umntu, waza wabheka enyokeni yobhedu, waphila.

10 Banduluka oonyana bakaSirayeli, baya bamisa iintente eObhoti.

23 Akawavumela uSihon amaSirayeli ukuba acande emdeni wakhe. USihon wahlanganisa bonke abantu bakhe, waphuma waya kuwahlangabeza amaSirayeli entlango, wafika eYatsa, walwa namaSirayeli.

24 AmaSirayeli amxabela ngohlangothi lwekrele, alihlutha ilizwe lakhe, athabathela eArnon, esa eYabhoki, esa koonyana baka-Amon; ngokuba umda woonyana baka-Amon ubuliqele.

25 AmaSirayeli ayithabatha yonke le mizi, ahlala amaSirayeli emizini yonke yama-Amori, eHeshbhon nasemagxamesini ayo.

26 Kuba iHeshbhon ngumzi wakwaSihon, ukumkani wama-Amori, owalwa nokumkani wakwaMowabhi wangaphambili, walihlutha lonke ilizwe lakhe kuye, kwesa eArnon.

27 Ngenxa yoko babesithi abenzi bemizekeliso: Yizani eHeshbhon, mawakhiwe uzinziswe umzi wakwaSihon;

28 Ngokuba kuphume umlilo eHeshbhon, Ilangatye emzini wakwaSihon; Wayidla iAri yakwaMowabhi, Abaninimimango baseArnon.

29 Yeha wena, Mowabhi! Nidakile, bantu bakwaKemoshe, Ubanikele oonyana bakhe baba ngabasabi, lintombi zakhe uzinikele ekuthinjweni, KuSihon, ukumkani wama-Amori.

33 Bajika, benyuka ngendlela yaseBhashan. Waphuma uOgi, ukumkani waseBhashan, waya kubahlangabeza, yena nabantu bakhe bonke, ukuba kuliwee-Edreyi.

34 Wathi uYehova kuMoses, Musa ukumoyika; ngokuba ndimnikele esandleni sakho, nabantu bakhe bonke, nelizwe lakhe, ukuba wenze kuye njengoko wenzayo kuSihon, unkumkani wama-Amori, owayehleli eHeshbhon.

Explanation of Numbers 21

Napsal(a) Henry MacLagan

Verses 1-3. A temptation from the merely natural man, through its rational faculty, is described.

Verses 4-9. Another temptation causing distress on account of falsities from evil, during which there is a tendency to return to merely natural states, and sensual lusts prevail; but there is application to the Word, and earnest prayer for deliverance, and then revelation that the Lord's Human is to be made Divine through temptations, and that, therefore, every one in the church has power from Him, by faith, to overcome the promptings of the sensual life.

Verses 10-20. Other changes of state in which the man of the church is protected.

Verses 21-35. And lastly, he is disposed, in another state of temptation, to temporize with evils in general; but discovering his error, resists his enemies, both generally and in particular, by the help of the Lord, and thus the external man is subdued, both as to selfish love and worldly love.
