1 Xa ithe indoda yazeka umfazi, yayindoda yakhe, kothi ke ukuba uthe akafumana ukubabalwa emehlweni ayo, ngokuba ifumene iindawo eziziintloni kuye, yambhalela incwadi yokumala, yamnikela esandleni, yamgxotha endlwini yayo;

2 waphuma endlwini yayo, waya waba ngowandoda yimbi; yamthiya le ndoda iyiyimbi,

3 yambhalela incwadi yokumala, yamnikela esandleni, yamgxotha endlwini yayo; nokuba ithe yafa le ndoda iyiyimbi yamzekayo wangumkayo:

4 mayingabi nako indoda yakhe yokuqala eyamgxothayo, ukubuya imzeke abe ngumkayo, emveni kokuba enziwe inqambi; ngokuba lisikizi elo kuYehova. Uze ungalenzi, ukuba lone ilizwe elo akunikayo uYehova uThixo wakho ukuba libe lilifa.

5 Xa indoda ithe yazeka umfazi omtsha, mayingaphumi nomkhosi, ingaphathiswa msebenzi nawuphi. Yokhululeka ngenxa yendlu yayo umnyaka ube mnye, ivuyisane nomkayo emzekileyo.

6 Makangenziwa sibambiso amatye okusila, nokuba lelingaphezulu, kuba oko kukubambisa ngomphefumlo.

7 Xa ithe indoda yafunyanwa isiba umntu ebazalwaneni bayo, oonyana bakaSirayeli, imphathe kakubi, ithengise ngaye njengekhoboka: malife elo sela; ubutshayele ke ububi, bungabikho phakathi kwakho.

8 Zigcine esibethweni seqhenqa, ugcine kunene, wenze ngokwezinto zonke abaya kuniyala ngazo ababingeleli, abaLevi; njengoko ndabawisela umthetho, nigcine ukwenza.

9 Khumbula oko uYehova uThixo wakho wakwenza kuMiriyam endleleni, ekuphumeni kwenu eYiputa.

10 Xa uthe wamboleka ummelwane wakho nokuba yintoni ebolekwayo, uze ungangeni endlwini yakhe, uye kuthabatha isibambiso kuye.

11 Uze ume ngaphandle, ithi loo ndoda uyibolekayo iphume, isizise kuwe isibambiso eso.

12 Ukuba indoda ithe yaba iswele, uze ungalali unesibambiso sayo;

13 wosibuyisela kuyo isibambiso eso ukutshona kwelanga, ilale ngengubo yayo, ikusikelele, ube nobulungisa phambi koYehova uThixo wakho.

14 Uze ungamcudisi umqeshwa ongaba uswele, olihlwempu, nokuba ngowabazalwana bakho, nokuba ngowabaphambukeli bakho abasezweni lakho, emasangweni akho.

15 Ngemini yakhe womnika umvuzo wakhe, lingatshoni ilanga usekuwe; ngokuba eswele, ewumise umphefumlo wakhe kuwo; hleze akhale ngawe kuYehova, oko ke kube sisono kuwe.

16 Ooyise mabangabulawa ngenxa yoonyana; oonyana mabangabulawa ngenxa yooyise; elowo makabulawe ngesono sakhe.

17 Uze ungasijiki isigwebo sowasemzini nesenkedama; ungayenzi isibambiso ingubo yomhlolokazi.

18 Khumbula ukuba ube ulikhoboka eYiputa. UYehova uThixo wakho wakukhulula khona; ngenxa yoko ndikuwisela umthetho ukuba uyenze le nto.

19 Xa uthe waluvuna uvuno lwakho entsimini yakho, walibala isithungu entsimini, uze ungabuyi uye kusithabatha; soba sesomphambukeli, nesenkedama, nesomhlolokazi, ukuze uYehova uThixo wakho akusikelele emsebenzini wonke wezandla zakho.

20 Xa uthe wawuvuthulula umnquma wakho, uze ungaphindi uwavuthulule amasebe emva kwakho; woba ngowomphambukeli, nowenkedama, nowomhlolokazi.

21 Xa uthe wasivuna isidiliya sakho, uze ungasibhikici emva kwakho; soba sesomphambukeli, nesenkedama, nesomhlolokazi;

22 ukhumbule ukuba ube ulikhoboka ezweni laseYiputa. Ngenxa yoko ndikuwisela umthetho ukuba uyenze le nto.

Explanation of Deuteronomy 24

Napsal(a) Alexander Payne

Verses 1-4. When the things loved do not accord with the things believed to be right in the soul, it is in a state analogous to divorce, and the things so loved by the external man and believed to be wrong must not be conjoined to the interior will.

Verse 5. When the understanding of truths is conjoined to its corresponding affection, a state of peace ensues.

Verse 6. No one is to be deprived of the truths of doctrine they live by.

Verse 7. Anything that perverts spiritual goods and truths to worldly uses is to be destroyed.

Verses 8-9. Caution against the danger of profanation.

Verses 10-13. In imparting truths the endeavour should be made to enable others to see from themselves, and not to force upon them one's own view.

Verses 14-15. Those who do good from inferior motives are not to be deprived of them.

Verse 16. Evil does not condemn till it is made a man's own by consent of the will and of the understanding.

Verses 17-18. External things are not to be despised, for the whole soul was in externals till redeemed thence by the Lord.

Verses 19-22. The soul must not return from states of good to the states of truth by which the former were gained, and which are for those still striving to reach them; a state of truth is one of bondage compared to a state of good.
