16 Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites who lived in the city, and given it for a portion to his daughter, Solomon's wife.

Verse 16. Because the natural man, being elevated, had overcome in itself the state of external worship perverted by self-love, and had entered into a state of obedience and service to the celestial principle with which it had an affinity through the natural affection of truth conjoined therewith.
