5 (And the LORD gave Israel a savior, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as formerly.

Verse 5. Also from the mercy of the Lord the corrupted man has power given to him to repress, from selfish motives, the force of the natural man, so that there is a state of apparent holiness, as in prior states of truth and good.
