4 อย่าทำรูปเคารพสลักสำหรับตนเป็นรูปสิ่งหนึ่งสิ่งใด ซึ่งมีอยู่ในฟ้าเบื้องบน หรือซึ่งมีอยู่ที่แผ่นดินเบื้องล่าง หรือซึ่งมีอยู่ในน้ำใต้แผ่นดิน

5 อย่ากราบไหว้หรือปรนนิบัติรูปเหล่านั้น เพราะเราคือพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าเป็นพระเจ้าที่หวงแหน ให้โทษเพราะความชั่วช้าของบิดาตกทอดไปถึงลูกหลานของผู้ที่ชังเราจนถึงสามชั่วสี่ชั่วอายุคน

6 แต่แสดงความเมตตาต่อคนที่รักเรา และปฏิบัติตามบัญญัติของเรา จนถึงพันชั่วอายุคน

7 อย่าออกพระนามพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าอย่างไร้ประโยชน์ เพราะผู้ที่ออกพระนามพระองค์อย่างไร้ประโยชน์นั้น พระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงถือว่าไม่มีโทษก็หามิได้

8 จงระลึกถึงวันสะบาโต ถือเป็นวันบริสุทธิ์

9 จงทำการงานทั้งสิ้นของเจ้าหกวัน

10 แต่วันที่เจ็ดนั้นเป็นสะบาโตของพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้า ในวันนั้นอย่ากระทำการงานใดๆ ไม่ว่าเจ้าเอง หรือบุตรชาย บุตรสาวของเจ้า หรือทาสทาสีของเจ้า หรือสัตว์ใช้งานของเจ้า หรือแขกที่อาศัยอยู่ในประตูเมืองของเจ้า

11 พราะในหกวันพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสร้างฟ้า และแผ่นดิน ทะเล และสรรพสิ่งซึ่งมีอยู่ในที่เหล่านั้น แต่ในวันที่เจ็ดทรงพัก เพราะฉะนั้นพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงอวยพรพรวันสะบาโต และทรงตั้งวันนั้นไว้เป็นวันบริสุทธิ์

12 จงให้เกียรติแก่บิดามารดาของเจ้า เพื่ออายุของเจ้าจะได้ยืนนานบนแผ่นดิน ซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าประทานให้แก่เจ้า

13 อย่ากระทำการฆาตกรรม

14 อย่าล่วงประเวณีผัวเมียเขา

15 อย่าลักทรัพย์

16 อย่าเป็นพยานเท็จใส่ร้ายเพื่อนบ้าน

17 อย่าโลภครัวเรือนของเพื่อนบ้าน อย่าโลภภรรยาของเพื่อนบ้าน หรือทาสทาสีของเขา หรือวัว ลาของเขา หรือสิ่งใดๆซึ่งเป็นของของเพื่อนบ้าน"

18 คนทั้งหลายเมื่อได้ยิน ได้เห็นฟ้าร้อง ฟ้าแลบ เสียงแตร และควันที่พลุ่งขึ้นจากภูเขาเช่นนั้น ต่างก็ยืนตัวสั่นอยู่แต่ไกล

19 เขาจึงกล่าวแก่โมเสสว่า "ท่านจงนำความมาเล่าเถิด พวกข้าพเจ้าจะฟัง แต่อย่าให้พระเจ้าตรัสกับพวกข้าพเจ้าเลย เกรงว่าข้าพเจ้าจะตาย"

20 โมเสสจึงกล่าวแก่พลไพร่ว่า "อย่ากลัวเลย เพราะว่าพระเจ้าเสด็จมาเพื่อลองใจท่านทั้งหลาย เพื่อพวกท่านจะได้ยำเกรงพระองค์ และจะได้ไม่ทำบาป"

21 พลไพร่ยืนอยู่แต่ไกล แต่โมเสสเข้าไปใกล้ความมืดทึบที่พระเจ้าทรงสถิตอยู่นั้น

22 พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "บอกชนชาติอิสราเอลดังนี้ว่า `เจ้าทั้งหลายได้เห็นแล้วว่า เราพูดกับพวกเจ้าจากท้องฟ้า

23 เจ้าอย่าทำรูปพระด้วยเงินไว้สำหรับบูชาเทียมเท่ากับเรา หรือทำรูปพระด้วยทองคำสำหรับตัว

24 จงใช้ดินก่อแท่นบูชาสำหรับเรา และบนแท่นนั้นจงใช้แกะและวัวของเจ้าเป็นเครื่องเผาบูชา และเป็นสันติบูชาแก่เรา ในทุกตำบลที่เราให้ระลึกถึงนามของเรา เราจะมาหาเจ้าและอวยพรเจ้า

25 ถ้าจะก่อแท่นบูชาด้วยศิลาสำหรับเรา อย่าก่อด้วยศิลาที่ตกแต่งแล้ว เพราะถ้าเจ้าใช้เครื่องมือตกแต่งศิลานั้น เจ้าก็จะทำให้ศิลานั้นเป็นมลทิน

26 และเจ้าอย่าเดินตามขั้นบันไดขึ้นไปยังแท่นบูชาของเรา เพื่อว่าการเปลือยเปล่าของเจ้าจะไม่ได้ถูกเปิดเผยเสียที่นั่น"
