Hosea 8

Set the shophar* to thy mouth*. He shall come as an eagle against the house of Jehovah, because they have crossed··over My covenant, and against My law they have transgressed.

Israel shall cry unto Me, My God, we know Thee.

Israel has cast··off what is good; the enemy shall pursue him.

They have made··kings, but not from Me; they have made··princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made for them idols, so··that they may be cut··off.

Thy calf, O Samaria, has cast· thee ·off; My anger is··fierce against them; How long will they not be··able to attain innocence?

For it is also from Israel; a craftsman made it, and it is not God; for the calf of Samaria shall be broken in··pieces.

For they have sown the wind, and they shall harvest the storm; there is no standing··grain for it; the growth shall not make meal; and if it should perhaps make meal, the strangers would swallow· it ·up.

Israel is swallowed··up; now shall they be among the nations as a vessel wherein there is no delight.

For they are gone··up to Assyria, a wild··ass alone to himself; Ephraim has hired* lovers.

Yes, though they have hired among the nations, now will I bring· them ·together, and they shall begin as few from the burden of the king of princes.

For Ephraim has multiplied altars to sin, they shall be for him altars for sin.

I have written to him the multitude of My law, but they were reckoned as a strange thing.

They sacrifice the flesh for the sacrifices of what is given Me, and eat it; but Jehovah is not well··pleased in them; now will He remember their iniquity, and visit their sins; they shall return to Egypt.

And Israel has forgotten his Maker, and builds temples; and Judah has multiplied fortified cities; but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces.
