Daniel 4

Studie

3:31 Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all peoples, nations, and tongues, who dwell in all the earth: Your peace be multiplied.

3:32 It was··good before me to show the signs and the amazing things that the God most··high has done with me.

3:33 How great are His signs! And how strong are His amazing works! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom, and His dominion is with generation and generation.

1 I Nebuchadnezzar was tranquil in my house, and flourishing* in my palace:

2 I saw a dream and it made me fearful, and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head vexed me.

3 And from myself I set forth a decree to bring··in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

4 Then came··in the magicians, the diviners, the Chaldeans, and those who sever*; and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known to me its interpretation.

5 But at the last Daniel came··in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according··to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and before him I told the dream,

6 O Belteshazzar, greatest of the magicians, for I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and there is not any secret that troubles thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.

7 And thus were the visions of my head on my bed; I was seeing, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was much.

8 The tree grew, and became··strong, and its height reached to the heavens, and its sight to the end of all the earth:

9 its leaves were goodly, and its blossom much, and in it was nourishment for all; the animals of the field had··shadow under it, and the birds of the heavens dwelt in its boughs, and from it all flesh was nourished.

10 I was seeing in the visions of my head on my bed, and, behold, a watcher and a holy··one descended from heaven;

11 he called with force, and said thus, Hew··down the tree, and clip··off its boughs, shake··off its leaves, and scatter its blossom; let the animals flee··away from under it, and the birds from its boughs;

12 yet leave the stock of its roots in the earth, and with a bond of iron and bronze, with the tender··herb of the field; and let it be tinged with the dew of the heavens, and let his part be with the animals in the grass of the earth.

13 Let his heart be changed from that of a man, and let a heart of an animal be given to him; and let seven times pass over him.

14 This matter is by the decision of the watchers, and what··is··asked by the order of the holy··ones, even··to the intent that the living may know that the Most··High has··dominion in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He desires, and raises··up over it the lowest of men.

15 This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. And thou, O Belteshazzar, tell its interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are· not ·able to make known to me the interpretation; but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

16 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for one hour, and his concerns vexed him. The king answered, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or its interpretation, vex thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be for them that hate thee, and its interpretation for thine enemies.

17 The tree that thou sawest, which grew and became··strong, and its height reached to the heavens, and its sight to all the earth,

18 and its leaves were goodly, and its blossom much, and in it was nourishment for all; under it the animals of the field dwelt, and in its boughs the birds of the heavens had· their ·habitation;

19 it is thou, O king, who art··grown and become··strong; for thy majesty is··grown, and reaches to the heavens, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

20 And whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy··one descending from the heavens and saying, Hew··down the tree and destroy it; yet leave the stock of its roots in the earth, even with a bond of iron and bronze, in the tender··herb of the field; and let it be tinged with the dew of the heavens, and let his part be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him;

21 this is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decision of the Most··High, which reaches on my lord the king:

22 and they shall drive· thee ·out from man, and thy dwelling shall be with the animals of the field, and they shall make thee to taste grass as oxen, and they shall tinge thee from the dew of the heavens, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the Most··High has··dominion in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He desires.

23 And whereas they said to leave the stock of the roots of the tree, thy kingdom shall be steadfast for thee, from this thou shalt know that the heavens have··dominion.

24 Therefore, O king, let my advice be··good concerning thee, and put··off thy sins by justice, and thine iniquities by being··gracious to the afflicted, if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquility.

25 All this came* on Nebuchadnezzar the king.

26 At the end of twelve months he was walking on the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.

27 The king answered, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the strength of my security, and for the glory of my honor?

28 While the word was in the the mouth of the king, there fell a voice from the heavens, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is said: The kingdom has passed··away from thee.

29 And they shall drive· thee ·out from man, and thy dwelling shall be with the animals of the field; they shall make thee to taste grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the Most··High has··dominion in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He desires.

30 In that hour was the word consummated on Nebuchadnezzar; and he was driven··out from man, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was tinged with the dew of the heavens, until his hairs were··grown as the eagles, and his nails as the birds*

31 And at the end of the days, I Nebuchadnezzar lifted··up my eyes to the heavens, and my knowledge returned to me, and I blessed the Most··High and I praised and honored Him who lives to eternity, whose dominion is an eternal dominion, and His kingdom is with generation and generation;

32 and all who dwell on the earth are reckoned as nothing; and He does as He desires with the forces of the heavens, and with those who dwell on the earth; and there··is not any who smite His hand and say to Him, What doest Thou?

33 At that time my knowledge returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and countenance returned to me; and my chancellors and my magnates sought for me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me.

34 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and exalt and honor the King of the heavens, all whose deeds are truth, and His paths judgment; and those that walk in pride He is··able to make··low.
