23 And now, I pray◦, be·​·surety with◦ my lord the king of Assyria, and I will give to thee two·​·thousand horses, if thou be·​·able for thyself to put◦ riders on them.

Verse 23. And under these persuasions, therefore, false reasoning also urges that the man of the church should allow himself to be perverted by yielding up his good affections, by accepting a depraved understanding from self-love, and by uniting it with evil affections;
