Kings 17

And Elijah the Tishbite of the lodgers of Gilead, said to Ahab, As Jehovah the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according··to the mouth of my word.

And the word of Jehovah was unto him, saying,

Go hence and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

And it shall be that thou shalt drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to sustain thee there.

And he went and did according to the word of Jehovah, and he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

And it was, at the end of days, that the brook dried··up, because there were no showers in the land.

And the word of Jehovah was unto him, saying,

Arise, go to Zarephath, which is of Zidon, and dwell there; behold, I have commanded a woman there, a widow, to sustain thee.

And he arose and went to Zarephath; and he came to the entrance of the city, and, behold, a woman was there, a widow, gathering··up wood; and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray, a··little water in a vessel and I will drink.

And she went to fetch it, and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray, a morsel of bread in thy hand.

And she said, As Jehovah thy God lives, I have not a cake, but a palm full of meal in a jar, and a··little oil in a flask, and, behold, I am gathering··up two pieces of wood, and will go··in and make it for me and for my son, and we will eat it and die.

And Elijah said to her, Fear not; come, do according to thy word, only make for me a small cake thereof first, and bring· it ·out to me, and for thee and for thy son shalt thou make afterwards.

For thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel, The jar of meal shall not be all··consumed, neither shall the flask of oil be··wanting, until the day that Jehovah gives showers upon the face of the ground.

And she went and did according··to the word of Elijah; and she ate and he and her house for days.

The jar of meal was· not ·all··consumed, and the flask of oil was not wanting, according··to the word of Jehovah, which He spoke by the hand of Elijah.

And it was, after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became··sick; and his sickness was very severe*, until no breath was remaining in him.

And she said unto Elijah, What is there to me and to thee*, thou man of God? Art thou come unto me to make my iniquity to be remembered and to make my son die?

And he said to her, Give me thy son. And he took him out··of her bosom and brought· him ·up into the upper··room, where he dwelt, and laid· him ·down upon his own bed.

And he called to Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah, my God, hast Thou also brought··evil upon the widow, with whom I sojourn, to··put· her son ·to··death?

And he measured himself upon the child three times, and called unto Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah my God, I pray, let the soul of this child return within him.

21 And Jehovah hearkened unto the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child returned within him, and he lived.

22 And Elijah took the child and brought· him ·down from the upper··room into the house, and gave him to his mother; and Elijah said, See, thy son lives.

23 And the woman said to Elijah, Now I know this, that thou art a man of God, and that the word of Jehovah in thy mouth is truth.
