Having spent the night in the elevated state represented by Betheny, we find the Lord renewed and in touch with His own divinity (a state represented by "morning"), but headed back to the struggles in the natural, external state of the church represented by the "city." The fact that He "hungered" means that He wished to see a desire for good in that external form of the church.

Like the preceding verse, this one can be read more broadly, with an application to the work the Lord was doing to set the existing church in order and launch His new one, and can also be read more narrowly, in terms of the work the Lord was doing within Himself in preparation for the crucifixion and resurrection.
