25 And there was a great famine in Samaria; and behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was worth eighty silver-pieces, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung five silver-pieces.

Verse 25. And this causes a great scarcity of knowledge concerning spiritual things in the church, so that, at length, even the intelligence derived from merely natural reason is esteemed as though it were the fulness of truth united with good, and the smallest corrupted residue of charity as though it were of equal value with fulness of truth separated from good.
