1 護衛長釋放耶利米護衛長尼布撒拉旦在拉瑪釋放了耶利米,從耶和華那裡有話臨到耶利米耶利米被提出來的時候,還被鐵鍊鎖著,在所有從耶路撒冷猶大被擄到巴比倫去的人中間

2 護衛長把耶利米提出來,對他:“耶和華你的要降這災禍在這地方;

3 現在耶和華使災禍臨到,照他所的行了;因為你們得罪了耶和華,沒有從他的話,所以這事才臨到你們。

4 我現在解開你上的鐵鍊。你若認為與我一同到巴比倫去,就一起去,我必照顧你;你若認為與我一同到巴比倫去不,就不必去。,全地都在你面前,你認為去哪裡、哪裡合宜,就到哪裡去吧!”

5 耶利米與基大利耶利米還沒有回答,護衛長又(“耶利米還沒有回答,護衛長又”原文意思難確定,有譯本改作“你若認為回去好”):“你可以回到沙番的孫子、亞希甘的兒子基大利那裡去!基大利是巴比倫指派管理猶大各城的。你可以和他一起在人民中間;或是你認為去哪裡合宜,就到哪裡去吧!”於是護衛長他糧食和禮物,就釋放他走了。

6 耶利米就到米斯巴去見亞希甘的兒子基大利,和他一同在那地剩下的人民中間

7 在田野的眾將領和他們的士兵,見巴比倫委派了亞希甘的兒子基大利管理那地,也委派他管理那些沒有被擄到巴比倫去的男人、婦女、孩童,和那地最貧窮的人,

8 他們就到米斯巴去見基大利;其中有尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利、加利亞的兩個兒子約哈難和約拿單、單戶篾的兒子西萊雅、尼陀法人以斐的眾子,和瑪迦人的兒子耶撒尼亞,以及他們的士兵。

9 沙番的孫子、亞希甘的兒子基大利向他們和他們的士兵起誓,說:“你們不要懼怕服事迦勒底人,只管在這地,服事巴比倫,就可以平安無事。

10 至於我,我要在米斯巴,侍候那些我們這裡的迦勒底人。你們只管收存酒、夏天的果子和,放在器皿裡,並且在你們所佔有的城中。”

11 那些在摩押、亞捫、以東和各地所有的猶大人,見了巴比倫猶大留下一些餘民,並且指派沙番的孫子、亞希甘的兒子基大利管理他們,

12 所有的猶大人就從被趕逐到的各地方回,到猶大地的米斯巴去見基大利,並且收存了許多的酒和夏天的果子。

13 基大利不信警告加利亞的兒子約哈難和在田野的眾將領,都到米斯巴去見基大利,

14 對他:“亞捫巴利斯派尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利來殺你,你知道嗎?”亞希甘的兒子基大利不相信他們。

15 後來加利亞的兒子約哈難在米斯巴私下告訴基大利:“請容我去把尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利殺了,必沒有人知道;為甚麼要讓他殺你,以致集合到你那裡來的所有猶大人都分散猶大餘剩的人都滅亡呢?”

16 但亞希甘的兒子基大利對加利亞的兒子約哈難:“你不可作這事,因為你所關於以實瑪利的事都是謊話!”
