Verse 18. And first the intellect is active from a desire for ease, and, assuming sovereignty, solicits friendship. But the truth cannot favour a false doctrine, and therefore it is rejected, whence arises the perception, to the corrupted mind, that the fair appearance of falsity does not deceive him who is in the truth.
