Deuteronomy 24:14

Verse 14. In this state the expectation of reward is not to be taken from them, otherwise, when they come to an obscure state caused by external loves and anxieties, their love of good and truth might perish; for they are in an external state, and this is their only motive to good; and if deprived of it, they might lose their faith and trust in the Lord, and fall into sin.
