Commentary on this verse

By Alexander Payne

Verse 13. And it is perceived from heaven in this state that the soul can no more live under the guidance of Divine truth alone: it is necessary that it should be conjoined with a determined warfare against every evil in the soul; and this combating principle and Divine truth must approach the Lord in the inmost of the soul, and take their commands from Him. Thus the Divine law, and Truth combating against evil and falsity, occupy the centre of the soul in a state derived from the love of good.
