8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

Commentary on this verse  

Here, watching over the “flocks,” refers to our God-given ability to watch over and guard those tender, innocent thoughts and feelings that God has given us. These are the states in us that want to follow God and live according to His Word.
