Psalms 69

1 To the victor, upon shoshannim*; of David.
2 Save me, O God;
for the waters have come··in even··to my soul.

2 3 I sink in the mire of the depth,
and there is no standing;
I have come into the deeps of the waters, and the billow flows··over me.

3 4 I tire with my calling; my throat is··ablaze;
my eyes are all··consumed, waiting··with··hope for my God.

4 5 They who hate me without· a ·cause are··many more than the hairs of my head;
they who cut· me ·away are··numerous, they are falsely my enemies;
that which I have not robbed I yet return.

5 6 O God, Thou knowest my stupidity;
and my guilt is not concealed from Thee.

6 7 Let not those who wait··on Thee be··ashamed through me, O Lord Jehovih* of Armies;
let not those who seek Thee, be humiliated through me, O God of Israel.

7 8 Because on··account··of Thee I have borne reproach;
humiliation has covered my face.

8 9 I have become a stranger to my brothers,
and a foreigner to the sons of my mother.

9 10 For the zeal of Thy house has eaten· me ·up;
and the reproaches of those who reproach Thee have fallen on me.

10 11 And I wept in the fasting of my soul,
and it was a reproach to me.

11 12 And I put on sackcloth for my clothing,
and I was to them for a proverb.

12 13 They who sit at the gate complain against me;
and they who strum are drinkers of strong··drink.

13 14 But as for me, my prayer is to Thee, O Jehovah, in the time of good··pleasure.
O God, in the multitude of Thy mercy, answer me, in the truth of Thy salvation.

14 15 Rescue me out··of the mud, and let me not sink;
let me be rescued from those who hate me, and out··of the deeps of the waters.

15 16 Let not the billow of waters flow··over me, and let not the depth swallow· me ·up;
and let not the well shut··up her mouth upon me.

16 17 Answer me, O Jehovah; for Thy mercy is good;
according··to the multitude of Thy compassions turn Thou to me.

17 18 And hide not Thy faces from Thy servant;
for I am··in··adversity; hastily answer me.

18 19 come··near to my soul, redeem it;
ransom me because··of my enemies.

19 20 Thou knowest my reproach, and my shame, and my humiliation;
all my adversaries are in· Thy ·presence.

20 21 Reproach has broken my heart;
and I am··very··sick.
And I waited··for one to be··sorry for me, and there was none;
and for comforters, but I found not one.

21 22 And they gave gall in my nourishment;
and for my thirst they gave· me vinegar ·to··drink.

22 23 Let their table become a trap before them;
and for repayments, a snare.

23 24 Let their eyes be darkened, lest they see;
and make their loins continually to falter.

24 25 Spill··out Thine indignation on them,
and let the fierceness of Thine anger overtake them.

25 26 Let their castle be desolated;
let there be no dweller in their tents.

26 27 For they pursue him whom Thou hast smitten;
and they recount the pain of Thy slain.

27 28 Give iniquity on their iniquity;
and let them not come into Thy justice.

28 29 Let them be wiped out··of the book of lives,
and not be written with the just.

29 30 But I am· afflicted and ·in··pain;
let Thy salvation, O God, set· me ·on··high.

30 31 I will··praise the name of God with a song,
and will magnify Him with confession;

31 32 and it will be··better to Jehovah than an ox,
or a bullock having··horns and having··hoofs.

32 33 The meek shall see, they who inquire··after God shall be··glad;
and your heart shall live.

33 34 For Jehovah hearkens to the needy,
and His bound ones He despises not.

34 35 Let the heavens and the earth praise Him,
the seas and everything that creeps therein.

35 36 For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah;
and they shall dwell there, and shall possess* her.

36 37 And the seed of His servants shall inherit her;
and they who love His name shall abide in her.
