Micah 6

Study

Hear ye now what Jehovah says: Arise, strive thou with the mountains, and the hills shall Hear thy voice.

Hear ye, O mountains, the plea of Jehovah, and ye strong foundations of the earth; for Jehovah has a plea with His people, and He will dispute with Israel.

O My people, what have I done to thee, and how have I wearied thee? Answer against Me.

For I brought· thee ·up out··of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out··of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

O My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab counseled, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim to Gilgal, so··that you may know the justice of Jehovah.

With what shall I go··before Jehovah, and bow··low to the high God? Shall I go··before Him with burnt··offerings, with calves, sons of a year?

Will Jehovah be··well··pleased with thousands of rams, with myriads of brooks of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my belly for the sin of my soul?

He has told thee, O man, what is good; and what does Jehovah require of thee, but to do judgment, and to love mercy, and to humble··thyself to walk with thy God?

Jehovah’s voice proclaims unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see Thy name; hear ye the rod, and who has appointed it.

Are there still for the man of the house some of the wicked treasures of wickedness, and the lean ephah of indignation?

Shall I purify with the balances of wickedness, and with the pouch of stones of deceit?

For her rich are··full of violence, and those who dwell in her have spoken falsity, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

Therefore also will I make· thee ·sick in smiting thee, in making· thee ·desolate on··account··of thy sins.

Thou shalt eat, but not be··satisfied; and thine emptiness shall be in the midst··of thee; and thou shalt take··away, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou deliverest will I give to the sword.

Thou shalt sow, but not harvest; thou shalt tread the olive, but not anoint thyself with oil; and shalt tread the must*, but not drink wine.

And thou keepest for thyself the statutes of Omri, and all the deeds of the house of Ahab, and you walk in their counsels, so··that I should give thee to desolation, and those who dwell there for a hissing; and you shall bear the reproach of My people.
