18 and Jehovah hath avouched thee this day to be a people for his own possession, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;

Verse 18. And the Lord betrothes the soul to Himself in that state, and it becomes more immediately conjoined to Him, according to His promises in the Word, to enable it to conform the life to His will;
